Unboxing
The Utorch PZE 911 came in a regular cardboard box as shown in the following figure.
Inside the box you’ll find the ceiling light metal frame alongside an acrylic lid, some screws to mount the light on the ceiling, and an instructions manual in English.
Design
The Utorch PZE – 911 design is very simple and modern, similar to the Yeelight YLXD01YL. It is a bit smaller with a diameter of 30 cm (11.81 inch). It is available with a white or blue frame – we got the white frame.
The ceiling light consists of two parts: the metal frame and an acrylic lid.
Inside the lamp you’ll find three strips with 8 LEDs each. Each strip comes with 4 white LEDs and 4 yellow/orange LEDs. These LEDs when combined are able to produce different white tones. The LED strips are connected to an LED WiFi driver that allows you to control the LEDs via Wi-Fi.
The LED strips are attached to the frame with screws. This is great to guarantee the strips do not fall, but the screws are not covered or protected at the back. This makes the lamp look cheaply made with a really bad finishing, and it can even scratch the surface of your wall.
There is a hole next to the AC wires, so that you can easily connect the lamp to the mains voltage. There are other 3 holes to attach the frame on the ceiling with the screws.
After having the light mounted on the ceiling, you just need to bend the acrylic plate to fit it in.
Connectivity
The Utorch PZE 911 Ceiling Light can be controlled using the “Smart Life” app. You can download it by scanning the QR code in the manual. The light also integrates with other services like Alexa and Google Home, which is great if you want to add it to your home automation system and have control using voice commands. It is also possible to integrate with IFTTT and create cool triggers and automation tasks.
Controls
The Smart Life app works great and allows you to control many products from the same brand. You are able to turn the ceiling light on and off with the app whether you are at home or any other place in the world. Control the light temperature and brightness and set schedules to automatically turn the light on and off. You can set actions to be executed whenever a condition is satisfied.
In summary, here’s what the SmartLife app allows you to do with the Utorch PZE 911 smart ceiling light.
- Control the lamp on and off remotely
- Integrate with other home automation products from the same brand
- Create schedules
- Adjust brightness
- Adjust temperature
- Add smart scenes
- Create automation tasks
Wrapping Up
To wrap up, the Utorch PZE 911 smart ceiling light works great and comes with all the necessary functionalities you would expect on a smart light. It allows you set schedules, create automation tasks, control from anywhere in the world, adjust brightness and much more. Additionally, it integrates with Alexa and Google Home, which is great for those who already have a system around those voice assistants. The app intuitive, easy to use and it works great. Also, if you have other products from the same brand you can control everything from the same app.
In terms of functionalities we don’t have anything to complain about. However, we didn’t like the lamp finishing that much. When you look closer, it looks cheaply made, and the screws at the back don’t look pretty at all. Additionally, the system to add the lid to the metal frame is also cheaply made. You have to bend the acrylic lid and it just sits on the metal frame.
We’ve received the Utorch smart ceiling light and the Yeelight YLXD01YL at the same time. Comparing both lamps, I honestly prefer the Yeelight YLXD01YL – the quality of the materials is high-end and makes the Utorch look even cheaper (because, in fact it costs less than half the price – you get what you pay for).
Additionally, the Yeelight also comes with a remote control if you don’t want to use your smartphone every time you want to change some settings. If you can spend a bit more, the Yeelight is totally worth it.
